Ashura is a day Imam Husayn, the holy prophet Muhammad’s grandson and all 72 of his companions including his six-month-old infant were all killed in Karbala. The promised Mahdi is the last savoir of Man who is living among us now. He is a man from the descendant of Husayn, the prophet Muhammad’s grandson.
The prophet Muhammad (PBUH) who is the last prophet sent by God had said about Mahdi:
قال النبی (صلی الله علیه وآله): “لاتذهب الدنیا حتّی یقومَ بأمر أُمتّی رجل من ولدالحسین یملأها عدلا کما ملئت ظلماً و جوراً
“The world will not come to an end until a man from the descendants of Husayn takes charge of the affairs of the world and fills it with justice and equity as it is filled with injustice and tyranny.”

Muslim people also believes in Jesus (PBUH) as the holy prophet of God. Muslims believes that Jesus was not killed according to what is written in the holy Quran and he will reappear to help Imam Mahdi. Read more here.

Ashura is a day on which the prophet Muhammad’s grandson, Imam Husayn and all 72 of his companions gave all he had to reform the Islamic community of the prophet Muhammad. They all were violently killed on the day of Ashura at Karbala and their women and children were all captured but they revived Islam by their blood till now.

Shia Iranian girls and women who are following Lady Zeinab, all covered with Chador and with a complete Hijab commemorated the martyrdom anniversary of the holy prophet Muhammad’s grandson and the third Shiite Imam, Imam Hussain by taking part in processions and ceremonies held on the day of Ashura 2016 in Iran.
Yesterday, on the day of Ashura, Nigerian forces open fire at Shia mourners, killing 20 innocent people who were participated in Ashura processions to mark the martyrdom anniversary of the prophet Muhammad’s grandson, Imam Hussain (PBUH)
Shia Muslims were also arrested in Kashmir during Ashura processions on Oct. 12, 2016.
Day of ashura 2016 in Kashmir, Shia Mulsims dressed in black with a headband containing t he name of Imam Hussain and Imam ALi (PBUH) were arrested.
Today, Iranian Shia Muslims marked the international day of Hazrat Ali Asghar, Imam Hussain’s six-month-old son who was martyred violently on the day of Ashura in Karbala. Each year in Muharram, women with their infants participate in the great mourning ceremonies to commemorate his martyrdom.
There were a six-month-old baby who was violently cut his head by Yazid Army on the day of Ashura in Karbala. He was in Imam Hussain’s hands when a three-branched arrow was thrown to him by Harmaleh. His name was Ali Asqar, the youngest Imam Hussain’s son who was martyred in thirst.
Therefore, each year during Muharram and Ashura, Muslim people participate in mourning ceremonies to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussain and all 72 of his companions and family members while they preferably dress their infants in such a way to memorize Ali Asqar (PBUH).
Self-flagellation is forbidden (Haram) in Islam. Great Shia scholars such as grand Ayatullah Khamenei who is the leader of Islamic Republic of Iran and Ayatullah Sistani, the Shia Leader in Iraq, have prohibited any self-mutilation such as self-flagellation with knives or chains (Tatbir) and even walking on fire. In Islam, saving human life and helping others against affliction are always enjoined. In the holy #Quran God says, “Whosoever saves a human life, saves the life of the whole mankind” [5: 32].
The holy prophet Muhammad’s grandson, Imam Hussain (pbuh), is the one who gave his life to save the whole mankind. He saved Islam by his blood. He revive Islam, the last version of the religion sent by God to save the humanity.
Thus every year, Shi’ite Muslims across the globe donate blood on the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussain(PBUH) and all 72 of his companions on the day of Ashura.
In Iran, blood collection centers are open till midnight on Ashura day to collect blood from volunteers. According to a paper published in 2011 , more than 37,000 blood unites during Ashura day and the night before it were donated. This was 3.5 times more than average daily rate of blood donation in Iran.
Muslims people from other countries also deliberately participated in this movement on the day of Ashura. In Addition, there are some campaigns across the world for blood donation on Ashura day such as whoishussain.org.
It is possible to stop a person but awakening is not suppressible. The blood of the Martyrs can awake many people as well as what Imam Hussain (PBUH) and his companions did on the day of Ashura in Karbala.
