Ashura 2016 in Iran is commemorated by Shiite Muslim people in Iran and other countries.
Ashura is a day on which the prophet Muhammad’s grandson, Imam Husayn and all 72 of his companions gave all he had to reform the Islamic community of the prophet Muhammad. They all were violently killed on the day of Ashura at Karbala and their women and children were all captured but they revived Islam by their blood till now.

There were a six-month-old baby who was violently cut his head by Yazid Army on the day of Ashura in Karbala. He was in Imam Hussain’s hands when a three-branched arrow was thrown to him by Harmaleh. His name was Ali Asqar, the youngest Imam Hussain’s son who was martyred in thirst.
Therefore, each year during Muharram and Ashura, Muslim people participate in mourning ceremonies to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussain and all 72 of his companions and family members while they preferably dress their infants in such a way to memorize Ali Asqar (PBUH).
When is Arbaeen 2015?

Ashura 2015: Millions of Shia Muslims gather in Karbala
Today, the 24th of Oct., was the day of Ashura. Millions of Shia Muslims across the globe gathered in Karbala to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of the holy prophet Muhammad’s grandson, Imam Hussain (PBUH) and all his companions.
Huge crowds of pilgrims, dressed in black packed inside the Imam Al-Hussain’s holy shrine while most of them were in the streets outside, mourning for Imam Hussain (PBUH).

More than 10 million people in Karbala for Ashura 2014
According to the news, despite all threats made by ISIL terrorists, more than 10 million pilgrims gathered in the holy city of Karbala to mark the day of Ashura in the year 2014.
Every year millions of mourners and lovers of Imam Husayn across the globe flock to Karbala, a city in Iraq where the holy shrines of Imam Husayn and his companions are located, to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of the prophet Muhammad’s grandson on the day of Ashura.
Ashura is the 10th day of Muharram, the 1st month in the Islamic calender. Imam Husayn who was the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), along with all 72 of his companions were martyred on this day in the battle of Karbala in 680 AD.
On the day of Ashura, shops and businesses were closed as mourners began pouring onto the streets since dawn but free food and drinks offer to mourners and pilgrims in the streets and mosques by some other people for the love of Imam Husayn (PBUH). Some people distribute foods which is called Nazri food, among their neighbors home by home thus you usually do not need to prepare your own food on the day of Ashura and Tasua, the 9th day of Muharram.
In the year 2015, The day of Ashura will fall on Saturday, the 24th Oct. and many pilgrims are preparing yourselves to arrive at Karbala for this day.

Arbaeen 2014 is coming in less than a week.
Some people have already begun their journey of about 550 kilometers from Basrah, a city in Iraq, to arrive in Karbala at Arbaeen 2014.
The day of Arbaeen is 40 days following Ashura and in this year, Arbaeen will fall on 13th December.

Today is Ashura, the day when the prophet Muhammad’s grandson, Imam hussain and 72 of his loyal companions were violently martyred in Karbala and all of his family were taken as prisoners only because they did not want to say yes to Yazid ibn Mu’awiyah.
Yazid had forced Imam Hussein to pledge allegiance to his tyrannical government otherwise he killed Imam hussein (PBUH) .
There was no way for Imam Hussein (PBUH) but Imam Hussein preferred to be killed instead of accepting tyranny and injustice as he said it openly in front of Yazid’s Army: “death with honor and nobility is better than life with baseness and contempt.“[1]
Along with the grandson of the prophet Muhammad, 72 of his companions also decided to stand with him up to end. They all scarified their lives to save Islam from utter distortion and destruction .

When is Ashura 2014?
Ashura in year 2014 is on Tuesday, the 4th of November.
The 10th of Muharram is called Ashura and Muharram is the first month of Islamic calender.
Ashura is always on the same day in the Islamic calendar but it is not in the Georgian calender because of the difference between these two calenders.
Ashura marks the day when Imam Hussein, the grandson of Prophet Mohammad, along with 72 of his companions was martyred more than 14 centuries ago thus every year on the day of Ashura, millions of mourners commemorate their martyrdom anniversary.
