Some people walk 80 kilometers and even more from Najaf to Karbala to show their true love toward Imam Hussain (PBUH) and to the world. It was also narrated that each step toward Karbala wipes out one sin and leads to one award.

This year , I’m going to be one of the 25 millions of people toward Karbala In-Sha-Allah and if Allah helps us, you can follow @husayn.ashura on Instagram to see the photos or short videos during my journey.

There is no doubt that the greatest and the most painful massacre in history was the martyrdom of Hussain (PBUH) and his 72 companions on the day of Ashura.

Imam Hussain (PBUH) was the prophet Muhammad’s grandson who was surrounded by an army of 30,000 people in Karbala, with no water for three days! They fought deliberately in the battlefield but they were all killed and beheaded one by one in front of their families on one day which is called Ashura.

Following the martyrdom of Hussain (PBUH) and his companions, their bodies were trampled by the hoofs of the horses, their tents were burnt in fire and their women and children including Lady Zeinab (PBUH), the prophet Muhammad’s granddaughter, were all captured and moved along with their heads toward the Levant.

Day of Ashura was a day Imam Hassan Al-Mujtaba (PBUH) said about it to Imam Hussain (PBUH) before his martyrdom:

“لا یوم کیومک یا اباعبدالله”

There is no day like yours, O’ Aba Abdillah! [Hussain][1]

Is Imam Hussain the person who mentioned in the following verses of Bible:

Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. (Matthew 24:30)

And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, (Revelation 5:9)

Arbaeen Quote : Visit God in his throne by the pilgrimage of Imam Hussain’s holy shrine

The world’s biggest peaceful pilgrimage is underway…

The pilgrimage of Imam Hussain’s holy shrine was recommended many times in the Islamic and Shia quotes (ahadith). You can see one of such quotes stated by Imam Reza (PBUH), the 8th Shia Imam, in the following image:

Whoever makes a pilgrimage to the holy shrine of Imam Hussain near the Euphrates river, is like the one who visits God at his throne.

Thawab al-A’mal, p 147

Arbaeen is the day in which the world’s biggest peaceful gathering is held annually around the holy shrine of Imam Hussain, the heart of the city of Karbala and millions of  Imam Hussain lovers across the world flock into Karbala for the pilgrimage of Imam Hussain on Arbaeen.

Arbaeen

Arbaeen

A huge numbers of pilgrims arrive in Karbala on foot. They walk for at least 80 kilometers from Najaf to the holy shrine of Imam Hussain in Karbala. Walking on Arbaeen is the best way to introduce Imam Hussain to the world and to help the reappearance of Imam Mahdi, the 12th Imam.  Arbaeen is also a way to memorize how much difficulties lady Zeainab and Hussain’s children tolerate as they were captive toward Karbala although there is no concern at all about food, drink and accommodation on the way to Karbala as some Imam Hussain’s lovers especially the Iraqian Shia Muslim people kindly provide what pilgrims might need on this way. They prepare everything for the pilgrims for free, for the love of Imam Hussain.

It’s really hard to me to explain what I have seen on this way. Giving up the usual life exactly at the time being very busy is not very simple but when you gave it all up,  you can experience a completely different life style on the way toward Karbala. You can feel a fresh love inside your heart toward Imam Hussain despite the difficulties of walking you might have in this way. You can see millions of people with different nationalities and languages surrendering you in this way with the same love toward Hussain inside their hearts as the holy prophet Muhammad stated that “Surely , there exists in the hearts of the believers, with respect to the martyrdom of Hussain, a heat that never subsides.”

The pilgrimage of Imam Hussain on Arbaeen was said to be one of the signs of a believers according to the quote received from Imam Hassan al-Asgari.

Day of Ashura : A part of Imam Hussain’s Will

Imam Hussain (PBUH) was the prophet Muhammad’s grandson who was martyred on the day of Ashura in Karbala.  He left a will before departing from the city of Medina and travelling toward Iraq. “I did not rise up for the cause of wickedness, amusement, corruption or oppression, but I rose up to reform the Muslim community of my grandfather [Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)]. I want to promote virtue and prevent vice.”

Arbaeen : A Lament in the Presence of Imam Khamenei + English Subtitle

Sayid Reza Narimani was unknown to me when I heard his lamentation for the first time. He performed this in front of  the supreme leader of  Islamic nations, Imam Khamenei at the first of the meeting with the people of Isfahan. It was happen at the same time people were walking to the Karbala on Arbaeen.
This lamentation was about Arbaeen. It was for Imam Hussain (PBUH) and for remembering of all the martyrs who were killed by the ISIL theorist group in Syria while they defend the holy shrine of lady Zeinab, the beloved Imam Hussain’s sister and the granddaughter of the prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Arbeen 2016: Photos of My journey to Karbala, A walk to the holy shrine of Imam Husayn

Arbaeen is a day on which the largest gathering in the world is held by Shia Muslim people in peace. Each year, the holy shrine of Imam Husayn in the city of Karbala receives an increasing number of pilgrims across all over the world. It was reported officially that on Arbaeen 2016, more than 20 millions pilgrims have gathered at Karbala. Despite the all modern technologies, millions of pilgrims prefer to walk 80 Km from Najaf to Karbala to show their love toward Imam Husayn and to his living son, the 12th Shia Imam (Imam Mahdi). In addition,  It is quoted that the pilgrimage of Imam Husayn on Arbaeen is a sign of a believer and every single step toward the holy shrine of Imam Husayn, can wipe out one sin and have one reward.

Thanks God, this year I was among the millions of pilgrims who walk to Karbala. To be honest, the journey was not such easy but undauntedly, it was an excellent journey that one should experienced it by him/herself. A different life style in which only one backpack is enough to start the journey as everything is prepared for free by Shia muslim people on the way to Karbala.

Many thanks to Iraqi people who compete each others to be at our service for God’s sake and for the love of Imam Husayn. They offer everything they have to pilgrims as they wish to be like  Imam Husayn who gave everything he had to revive Islam.

I do apologize at first that my photos can not show the all aspects of Arbaeen as I am not a photographer and I took photos with my mobile phone.

Arbaeen 2015: My Photos on the way to Karbala (2)

Thanks God, It was my 1st travel to Karbala and the 1st time walking on Arbaeen but interestingly everything on the way to Karbala was so familiar to me as I had seen most of them at the photos of the previous years.

It was kindness and love all over on the way to Karbala despite what Lady Zainab and Imam Hussain’s children saw on this way more than 14 centuries ago while they were captive…

Many thanks to Iraqi people who provided everything that pilgrims needed on this way.
