20 million people in Karbala for Arbaeen 2014
According to the news of today, the estimated number of pilgrims flocking to the holy city of Karbala for Arbaeen 2014 was said to hit 20 million.
More pilgrims from around the world are pouring into Karbala to commemorate the religious ceremony, which marks the 40th day after the anniversary of martyrdom of Prophet Mohammad’s grandson, Imam Hossein (PBUH).
Black-clad pilgrims are walking toward Karbala, where they will take part in the mourning ceremonies around Imam Hossein’s holy shrine.
According to Iraqi authorities, some 17 million people have already arrived in the holy city and a three million more are expected for Saturday.

On the way to Karbala – Arbaeen 2014
Arbaeen 2014 is coming in less than a week.
Some people have already begun their journey of about 550 kilometers from Basrah, a city in Iraq, to arrive in Karbala at Arbaeen 2014.
The day of Arbaeen is 40 days following Ashura and in this year, Arbaeen will fall on 13th December.

On the way to Karbala
Karbala holds the holy shrine of the prophet Muhammad’s grandson and his companions, so millions of Muslims around the world make their way to the city of Karbala to commemorate the day of Arbaeen in every year.
The day of Arbaeen is 40 days following Ashura and in this year(2014) Arbaeen will fall on 13th December.
According to news, many pilgrims have begun a journey of 55 miles or so to Karbala by their own foot for the love of Imam Hussain (PBUH). Here are some photos of the previous years I’ve selected for you.
Arbaeen, 40 days after Ashura
40 days after Ashura is called Arbaeen (/ærbæyi:n/).
The Arbaeen ceremony is one of the largest peaceful gatherings in the world that is annually occurs 40 days after the martyrdom of the Prophet Mohammad’s grandson, Imam Hussain (PBUH), and his companions on the day of Ashura.
Millions of Muslims around the world make their way to the city of Karbala in Iraq to commemorate Arbaeen every year. many of these pilgrims make a journey of 55 miles or so, on their own foot for the love of Imam Hussain (PBUH) despite the terrorist attacks.
Karbala is the city where the holy shrine of the Prophet Muhammad’s grandson is held in and it was the destination of an estimated more than 20 million people in Arbaeen 2014.
This year, Arbaeen will fall on Saturday 13th, December 2014.
