Ashura self-flagellation with knives or chains!!

Self-flagellation is forbidden (Haram) in Islam. Great Shia scholars such as grand Ayatullah Khamenei who is the leader of Islamic Republic of Iran and Ayatullah Sistani, the Shia Leader in Iraq, have prohibited any self-mutilation such as self-flagellation with knives or chains (Tatbir) and even walking on fire. You can see their Fatwas (religious opinions) on tatbir.org

Previously I made several images about this prohibition and now I made some other images which contains the photos of some Shiite scholars who have prohibited such practice.

Ashura 2018 | Photos of International Day of Ali Asghar

The smallest martyr of Karbala was Imam Hussain’s six-month-old son, Hazrat Ali Asghar (PBUH), who was killed with a three-branched arrow on the day of Ashura while he was on the hands of Imam Hussain (PBUH).

Therefore, each year an special great ceremony is held all over the wold on The International day of Ali Asghar (or global day of Ali Asghar) to mark the martyrdom anniversary of  Hazrat Ali Asghar (PBUH).

These special ceremonies are conducted on the first Friday of Muharram in all the cities of Iran or on the first Sunday in other countries and a huge number of mothers with their babies join in although the famous broadcasting web sites such as BBC, huffingtonpost, independent and so on totally ignore theses great annually ceremonies!

When is Ashura 2016?

Ashura 2016 is on Wednesday, the 12th of October.

The day of Ashura (/ʌʃuːrʌ /) is the 10th day of Muharram(/Mohærræm/) which is the first month in the Islamic calendar. As the Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar and the Georgian calendar is a solar one, therefore each year, the day of Ashura falls in a different day in the Georgian calendar.

There is no day like Ashura. Day of Ashura marks the day in which thirty thousand people who consider themselves as the followers of the holy prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and who call themselves Muslims, gathered around the prophet’s grandson, Imam Husayn, shed his blood and all 72 of his companions and captured their women and children in more than 14 centuries ago in a land called Karbala.

Ashura is not عاشورا!

As you may know, “Ashura” is English translation for “عاشورا” in Persian and Arabic languages, but when you search both titles separately on Google image, you will find the results completely different!

How media show “Ashura”

If you notice to websites hosted the images  of the results, you will see that the most results of عاشورا are connected to Iranian websites in Persian language, but most of “Ashura” images are connected to western websites and famous media like IBTimes and The Telegraph.

The question is why such media depict a bloody Ashura and try to attribute this violence to Shia people while self-flagellation with knives or chains is absolutely impermissible in Islam as the command of the supreme leader of Iran, Imam Khamenei, and other clerics.

About

In the name of God, The compassionate, The merciful

Self-injury in any ways is forbidden in Islam but If you Google search for images with the title of “Ashura”, you will find lots of bloody terrifying photos showing self-flagellation with chains, knives, swards or blades by some people who are claimed as Shia Muslim people!!

As the day of Ashura is marked by Muslim and Shia people in a completely different way, I made this blog to spread the truth to the extent of my ability and “God does not impose upon any soul a duty but to the extent of its ability” (The holy Quran; 2:286)

Note: All images made by ashuraaa.wordpress.com are “Waqf” or free to use to introduce Imam Hussain (PBUH) and Islamic insights to the world for the sake of God.

Please share images as much as you can to introduce Imam Hussain (PBUH) and the real event of Ashura to the world.

What is Ashura?

Ashura is the tenth day of Muharram and Muharram is the first month in the Islamic calendar.
On the day of Ashura, in more than 14 centuries ago and in a place called Karbala which is now in Iraq, Imam Hussain (PBUH) who was the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) along with all 72 of his men including his family members gave everything they had in order to save the teachings of Islam from utter distortion and destruction.

The Imam Hussain’s six-month-old son was the smallest martyr on the day of Ashura. All women including lady Zainab, the Imam Hussain’s beloved sister and their children were captured on the day of Ashura following the martyrdom of their men in Karbala.

Imam Hussain himself said his goal before moving toward Iraq. He said that: “I did not rise up for the cause of wickedness, amusement, corruption or oppression, but I rose up to reform the Muslim community of my grandfather [Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)]. I want to promote virtue and prevent vice.”

Imam Hussain was killed because he rejected to pay allegiance to the tyrant of the time, Yazid.  Imam Hussain and his companions were encircled by an army of 30,000 in Karbala which decapitated martyrs and ran over bodies with horses. Yazid’s army then plundered tents of Imam Hussein’s family and burned them. Then, they moved all women and children along the heads of the martyrs to Yazid’s court.

Ashura is the day of grief and sorrow. Shia Muslims do not fast on Ashura day. Shia Muslims dress in black and take to the streets and mosques on Ashura day to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of the holy Prophet Muhammad’s grandson, remembering Imam Hussain as the symbol of freedom and dignity.
